This was a valley far out of town, where we were brought by tourist coach, to take a small off-road bus to a musher's camp to meet sled dogs and their owners.
Click on each red coloured link (the text, lah) for more on each topic.
Well, here we are sitting in an enlarged golf buggy with extra wheels waiting the ride to start.
It was quite a ride!
Fun too!
After thanking the sled dogs, we were taken into their kampong.
Homer's the kampong head-dog, retired from the races.
But still have to work.
Posing with the tourists.
Here are two sled dogs, each chained to its kennel.
There were about 20 kennels in this particular clearing.
Visit them !
We were given a very interesting and informative talk on sled dogs, sleds, and the nitty gritty on using the two togather as a mode of transport.
The lecturer and his assistant were excellent.
This musher's camp is set up to entertain tourists (like us) in the summer (like now).
So there were the very necessary facilities like bench seats, rubbish bins, toilets, refreshments and a gift shop.
See more here.
The best was saved for last: the sled dog puppies of course.
Nowadays they are kept for racing, so they are cross-bred for racing charateristics, so much so that they do not look as "husky" as depicted in books, pictures and movies.
Fortunately they are still cute little things.
